Sept 11, 2001
This day will forever be remembered as the day when all of America stood still. On September 11, 2001 he United States was attacked by terrorist in planes, two hitting the world trade towers, one hitting the pentagon, and one crashing in pennsylvania. Resulting in the death of 2,974 civilians from 90 different countries.(wiki)
While the impact of the planes on the World Trade Towers didn’t collapse them immediately, within two hours they both had fallen. According to Wikipedia most of the people below the impact area of the planes were able to escape.(wiki) Resulting in a lot fewer deaths. After the collapse of the South tower a toxic dust cloud filled the streets causing difficulties with rescue and recovery. Soon after the first tower collapsed the North Tower fell as well. The collapsing of the two towers damaged many of the surrounding buildings causing one of the smaller World Trade building to collapse later in the day.
At the pentagon the a plane crashed into the side causing a fire and a portion of the building to collapse. This resulted in the death of 64 people in the plane and 125 people in the building. Thankfully they were doing renovations in most of that section which reduced the number of casualties significantly.
The fourth plane crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. This was because the people on the plane decided to fight back. Many of the passengers banded together and tried to take on the hijackers. This resulted in loss of control of the plane and then to the crash. The planned destination was the capitol building in Washington D.C. All 40 passengers died in the crash.

Many fundraisers and support for the victims families came forth.
War with Afghanistan
As a result of the attacks on September 11 the United States and allies went to war in Afghanistan on October 7, 2001 and are still there today. Afghanistan is where the Terrorist Leader Osama Bin Laden lives and runs his terrorist group. The group called the Tabliban had taken over the government and was giving safe harbor to Osama Bin Laden’s terrorist group Al-Qaeda. The purpose of the war was to remove the Taliban regime and find Osama Bin Laden. To date the Taliban has been removed but they have yet to find Bin Laden.
